McCarthy wins Tour du Lac for 3rd straight year

BUCKSPORT — One of the summer’s biggest road races took place early Saturday morning as runners came to Bucksport for this year’s edition of the Tour du Lac 10-Mile Road Race.

For the third straight year, the overall event win went to Old Town’s Erik McCarthy, who crossed the finished line in 53 minutes, 32 seconds. Another Old Town competitor, Eliza Tibbits, crossed in 1 hour, 2 minutes to finish as the top female runner with an overall place of sixth.

Michael Bunker of Liberty placed second overall with a time of 55:08, and Judson Cake of Bar Harbor became the first Hancock County finisher moments later when he crossed in 56:14 to place third. Adam Goode of Topsham and Ken Akiha of Orono rounded out the top five.

Erik Knickerbocker and Andrew Kephart then gave Ellsworth its first two finishers of the day with seventh- and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Castine’s Bob Ciano finished 10th with a time of 1:07:39.
