CASTINE — Judson Cake of Bar Harbor finished more than a minute and a half in front of his nearest competitor in winning Monday’s first-ever Cougar Classic 5K Run.
The 33-year-old Cake turned in a time of 17 minutes and 14 seconds over the five-kilometer course that took runners through Castine village and Witherle Woods.
Bob Ciano, 58, of Castine finished as runner-up in 19:17, just one day after turning in the fastest individual time at the Dynamic Duo Cross-country race in Bucksport.
Rachelle Doucette, 24, of Cumberland was the first female finisher, placing seventh overall in 26:25 in the field of 23 entrants.
Others among the top 10 finishers included:
- Vijay Kataria, 23, of Grassy Creek, N.C., third in 20:45.
- Ryan King, 44, of Stockton Springs, fourth in 22:23.
- Phil Mills, 20, of Castine, fifth in 23:00.
- John Hassett, 13, of Castine, sixth in 23:05.
- Craig Dagan, 40, of Castine, eighth in 26:36.
- Amos Gilbert, 14, of Salisbury, Conn., ninth in 26:58.
- Peter Gilbert, 46, of Salisbury, Conn., 10th in 27:04.
Proceeds from the race were designated to purchase a trophy case and support the athletics program at Castine’s Adams School.
