ELLSWORTH — Matt Homich of Ellsworth and Jennifer VanDongen of Bar Harbor were the overall winners in the 10-kilometer competition in Saturday’s annual Roger Willey Road Races held by the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA.
The largest field ever turned out for the 5K and 10K races, which were run at the same time.
Homich, 25, led the field of 37 runners in the 10K race with a time of 37 minutes and 20 seconds.
He was followed by Andrew Kephart, 28, of Ellsworth in 37:53; Chris Holt, 51, of Ellsworth in 38:29; and Warren Hughes, 44, of Ellsworth in 40:43.
VanDongen, 36, was the women’s winner and placed fifth overall in 41:03.
In the 5K competition, Tobin Peacock, 39, of Lamoine took top overall honors with his time of 18:30.
He was followed by Juan Aponte, 46, of Brooklin in 18:47; Rob Shea, 40, of Ellsworth in 18:55; Evan Merchant, 12, of Beals in 19:30; and Derek Hayes, 35, of Franklin in 320:36.
Robin Clarke, 43, of Ellsworth was the women’s winner, placing sixth overall in 22:00.
Jamie Pickering, 31, of Lamoine was the women’s runner-up, finishing seventh overall in 22:12.
A field of 62 runners, ranging in age from 6 to 74, completed the 5K race.
The event was sponsored by Willey’s Sports Center of Ellsworth.
