Homich, Knapp win Lamoine half-marathon



LAMOINE — Matt Homich and Dara Knapp won the third annual Lamoine half-marathon Saturday morning.

Homich finished the 13.1-mile course, which started and ended at Lamoine Beach, in one hour, 20 minutes and 50 seconds to take first overall and in the male age 19-29 division. Knapp (age 30-39 division) was the first female finisher in 1:41:15.

Some 70 runners competed in this year’s race.

The event was started by Nick Brown and Nate Jillette in the spring of 2014 after Brewer’s Chamberlain March was canceled due to weather. With local runners eager to kick off the road racing season, Brown and Jillette threw together the half-marathon that has since become an annual affair.

The following also won their divisions:

Female age 19-29: Sam Burrill (1:51:41).

Male age 30-39: Ian Fraser (1:21.52).

Male age 40-49: Andy Pereira (1:25:27).

Female age 40-49: Robin Clarke (1:43:49).

Male age 50-59: Michael Westphal (1:38:56).

Female age 50-59: Lisa Tweedie (2:01:20).

Male age 60-69: Bob Ciano (1:33:29).

Female age 60-69: Donna Kausen (2:08.56).
