Hancock County runners compete in Veazie Day 5K

VEAZIE — Local runners were among the 30 who competed Saturday in this year’s Veazie Day 5K.

The first Hancock County finisher in the race was Dedham’s Andrew Goupee, who had won the event in 2018. Goupee finished with a time of 17 minutes, 55 seconds this time around to take home second place.

Dedham’s Jaymie Sidaway posted a time of 22 minutes, 37 seconds to place 10th and finish as the race’s top women’s runner overall. Her sister, Eilidh, finished 14th with a time of 25:39.

Elsewhere toward the middle of the pack, Tom Kirby of Ellsworth (18th), Christopher Heel of Mount Desert (20th) and Lloyd Harmon of Ellsworth (21st) finished with times of 27:06, 27:26 and 28:29, respectively. Marion Frehill of Mariaville was the penultimate Hancock County finisher with a time of 35:09, and local road race icon Robin Emery crossed the finish line in 36:40 to round out the field.

The race winner was Jonathan Goupee, who beat out Andrew Goupee by four seconds for the top spot.
