Flattop 5K Road Race set to be held next weekend



LAMOINE — This year’s running of the annual Flattop 5K Road Race is scheduled to be held next Saturday, March 30, at the Lamoine Consolidated School.

The 2019 Flattop 5K will be the 14th running of the annual race, which marks the unofficial start of road race season and the official start of the Eden Athletics Points Series. The race was first held in 2005 in honor of Lamoine’s former harbormaster, Bill Pinkham, who sported a famous “flattop” hairstyle.

A total of 219 runners competed in last year’s race, which Dave Kerschner of Old Town won with a time of 16 minutes, 34 seconds. Jarly Bobadilla of Tremont and Rob Shea of Ellsworth placed 10th and 11th, respectively, to finish as the top male runners, and Elli Hartig of Bar Harbor placed 31st with a time of 21:51 to finish as the top local female runner.

The race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. March 30 with race-day registration available until 9:30 a.m. The cost to enter is $15.
