AUGUSTA — The Bicycle Coalition of Maine ranked as the country’s top state bicycle advocacy organization in a recent report by the Thunderhead Alliance, a national coalition of bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organizations.
Thunderhead’s first biennial Benchmarking Report, titled “Bicycling and Walking in the U.S.,” cites BCM as the state organization with the most members per capita. BCM’s 6,000 members equate to one for every 212 Maine residents.
Overall, BCM ranked as the state organization with the greatest capacity to advocate for bicyclists, according to the Benchmarking Report.
Formed in 1992, BCM is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The coalition also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
