Ellsworth and GSA Earn Debut Golf Wins

ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Eagles and the George Stevens Academy Eagles opened their high school golf seasons on a winning note Tuesday.

Ellsworth rolled to a 172-196 win over the Bucksport Golden Bucks at the par-35 Bar Harbor Golf Course in Trenton.

For Ellsworth, Nick Richie earned medalist honors with a four-over-par round of 39. He was followed by Greg Martin at 43, Brandan Albee and Tyler Beardsley at 45, Josh Conary at 52 and Zach James and Matt James at 57.

For Bucksport, James Potter led the way with a round of 44, followed by Trevor Bowden and Ryan Bailey at 50, Billy DeRedin at 52, Brent Chaffee at 53, Tyler Burrill at 54 and Justin Clapper and Andrew Marsh at 56.

At the par-35 Castine Golf Club, the GSA Eagles cruised to a 171-223 win over the Mount Desert Island Trojans.

Leading the way and claiming medalist honors for GSA was Jasper Adam with a four-over-par 39. Following him were Nick Dillon at 42, David Bertrand at 43 and Storme Macomber and Alex Heilner at 47.

For MDI, Kyle McKim led the way with a round of 48, followed by Ben Walls at 54, Morgan Kelly at 58 and Kyle Greaves at 63.

At the par-34 Barren View Golf Course in Jonesboro, the Sumner Tigers, with just three golfers, posted no team score in a loss to the Washington Academy Raiders.

For the Tigers, Vincent Ossanna had a round of 68, followed by Braden Wentworth at 71 and Casey Slater at 77.
