Bo Lewis Memorial Tournament raises $20,000 for YMCA camp scholarships

TRENTON — The Down East Family YMCA has announced that the Bo Lewis Memorial Golf Tournament raised over $20,000 at last Friday’s golf outing at the Bar Harbor Golf Course. This is the fourth year of the Bo Lewis Tournament that started after the unexpected death of Bo Lewis on Oct. 9, 2012. Lewis, an avid golfer and YMCA supporter, was active at all of the Y’s tournaments. He was fond of the Y’s Camp Discovery and what a camp experience gives to a young child. Since the Y’s annual golf tournament was named in Bo’s memory, the tournament has raised over $68,000 and has financially assisted 206 kids to go to camp.

A total of 148 golfers took to the course Friday. The team of Dale Tozier Sr., Dale Tozier Jr., Brian Hurd and Ernie Woodward won low gross score with 62. The team of Scott Kane, Chris Thornton, Eric Fitch and Buddy Archer won the low net with a score of 52.5. Longest drive recognition went to Nicole Gogan for women and Chris Archer for men. Closest to the pin winners were, Hole 4, Steve Joy (43 inches); Hole 8, Rick Roberts (8 feet, 4 inches); Hole 11, Tom McDonald (7 feet, 11 inches); Hole 17, Bobby Kelly (8 feet, 2 inches). The tournament auction raised $4,800 for the scholarship.

YMCA Executive Director Peter Farragher commended the organizing committee.

“The tournament leadership team of Becky Sargent, Harvard Austin, Joe Domagala, Patti Patterson King and Stephen Fay, along with dozens of wonderful volunteers, made this year’s event the best to date,” he said.
