PORTLAND — Ellsworth/Sumner and Mount Desert Island football players — and one notable coach — received all-conference honors in their respective leagues.
In the Campbell Conference, Ellsworth/Sumner’s Jeremy Card, Connor Crawford and Noah Hughes received all-conference nominations last Wednesday following the Eagles’ first season of eight-man play. The trio received their awards Sunday at the conference’s postseason banquet in Portland.
Also honored at the banquet was Ellsworth/Sumner assistant Toog McKay, who was named the Campbell Conference’s Assistant Coach of the Year. McKay, Ellsworth/Sumner’s defensive coordinator, has been part of the coaching staff since the Ellsworth Football League’s birth in 2008.
“[Toog] has been a constant with Ellsworth football and one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the state,” Ellsworth/Sumner head coach Duane Crawford wrote in a tribute to McKay given at the banquet. “I can’t say enough about his commitment and love of and for the game. Without Toog’s involvement, the Ellsworth/Sumner program would not be nearly as successful as it has been.”
For MDI, Porter Isaacs was announced Nov. 14 as an All-Big 11 Conference second-team selection at defensive tackle. Ethan Harkins and Sam Mitchell earned honorable mention.
Each of the 10 Big 11 football programs nominated one player for Lineman of the Year and one for Player of the Year. MDI’s selections were Archer Hill (Lineman of the Year) and Nick Corson (Player of the Year).
