BUCKSPORT — Senior quarterback Mike Cummings, who led the Bucksport Golden Bucks to the Eastern Maine Class C and Little Ten Conference football championships, has been named the LTC Player of the Year.

A three-year starter and team captain, Cummings was a standout both offensively and defensively for the Golden Bucks.

At quarterback, he was a threat to pass or to run. He completed 47 of 83 passes for 539 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 540 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 7.9 yards on each of his 68 carries.

“He’s a great kid and was a leader on and off the field,” said Bucksport coach Joel Sankey.

“He played the quarterback position with a linebacker mentality and never avoided a hit. He was a very explosive runner and was over 50 percent in passing. That’s a pretty good year.”

Cummings led a strong contingent of Golden Bucks who earned LTC first team all-star honors.

On first team offense, Cummings was selected at quarterback, Chris Powell at fullback, Shawn Smith at tailback, Jon Geagan at wide receiver and Jimmy Osgood at tackle.

First team defense selections included Cummings at defensive back, Powell at linebacker, Nic Bishop at linebacker, Damon Klinedinst at noseguard and Jordan Fogg at defensive end.

Second team offense selections were Josh Gray at utility back, Keith Nutter at tackle and Cody Gray at center.

Second team defense selections were Smith at linebacker, Jacob Stewart at linebacker and Osgood at tackle.
