BUCKSPORT — A slow start to the game Friday night didn’t stop the Bucksport football team from keeping its unbeaten start to seven-on-seven play alive.
Bucksport improved to 3-0 in seven-on-seven football with a 27-14 victory over Hampden Academy in Friday’s game at Bucksport High School. The win came as the Golden Bucks fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter before scoring four straight touchdowns and keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Hampden put Bucksport in a two-score hole early in with a pair of touchdowns in the game’s first nine minutes. Yet the Golden Bucks got touchdown passes from Ayden Maguire to Tyler Hallett and Jaxon Gross early in the second quarter to tie the game at 14 and carry momentum into halftime.
With 7 minutes, 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Bucksport took the lead on a touchdown pass from Aiden Day to Gavin Billings. The Golden Bucks then scored the final touchdown of the night with 2:31 to play on a pass from Logan Stanley to Jake Guty.
Bucksport opened the seven-on-seven season Sept. 25 with a 13-12 road victory over Belfast. The Golden then posted a 21-0 home win in last Friday’s Senior Night showdown against Orono.
Bucksport will be back in action when it hosts Brewer at 6 p.m. next Friday, Oct. 16.
