ELLSWORTH — Two new assistant coaches will join head coach Duane Crawford as the Ellsworth Football League’s high school team looks ahead to the coming season.
Tony Rolfe of Brooksville, who formerly coached in Cohasset, Mass., and was a head coach for 13 years, will serve as offensive coordinator, according to Crawford.
Crawford will take on responsibility for the defense, with assistance from Dan Ormsby, who teaches and coaches wrestling at Ellsworth High School.
George “Toog” McKay, who assisted Crawford with the team last season, will continue to help out whenever possible, said Crawford.
The team currently is practicing on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on the high school softball field. Practices will continue until Aug. 1.
“Last year, we spent most of the summer trying to get through the very basics,” said Crawford.
This year’s group “is light years ahead of last year,” he said, with work already under way to establish both offensive and defensive sets.
“Those are things we didn’t get to until well into the regular season last year,” said Crawford.
This year’s team, representing Ellsworth High School, will play a junior varsity schedule.
