Local Class C cross-country runners compete in Bucksport



BUCKSPORT — Cross-country runners from local Class C teams traveled to Bucksport High School on Saturday for the second meet of the 2021 season.

Runners from Bucksport, George Stevens Academy and Sumner participated in the meet, which also included competitors from other Class C schools throughout eastern Maine. Orono claimed first place in the boys’ and girls’ team events with both GSA squads placing second.

On the boys’ side, Bucksport’s William Hileman claimed his second win in as many meets this year as he finished first with a time of 15 minutes, 49.09 seconds. Clark Morrison of GSA (third place, 17:17.16) and Kaleb Colson of Sumner (fourth place, 17:34.01) also finished in the top five.

GSA’s Thea Crowley finished third in the girls’ race with a time of 18:17.08. Bucksport’s Rebekah Ireland (sixth place, 22:21.54) and GSA’s Arianna Stilles-Martin (eighth place, 22:57.44) also finished in the top 10 for Hancock County.

Elsewhere, Ellsworth competed in a multi-race event Saturday at Caribou High School. Matthew Cormier (22:06.46), Rowan Tate (21:26.28), Benjamin Tate (23:45.96) and Addison Nelson (21:57.38) all placed fourth in their respective races for the Eagles in the meet, which featured seven 3-mile girls’ races and seven 3-mile boys’ races.

Runners from all six Hancock County high schools will be back in action for the next meet at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, on the fairground track in Blue Hill.
