Lady Mariners Fourth at Unity

UNITY — Colby College placed eight of the top ten runners to capture the Unity College Invitational on Saturday. Maine Maritime finished in fourth place in the field of four teams.

Colby’s Kylie Van Buren ran a 21:05 for second place. She was the first of eight consecutive Mules to cross the line. Van Buren finished 33 seconds off of the first place mark of 20:32, posted by Maine-Machias’ Paige Wheatman. Machias placed second, followed by Thomas.

Maine Maritime’s Emily Fanning (New Boston, N.H.) was the first runner to finish, crossing tenth in the field of 28 at 23:50. Jane Allred (Morrill) posted a 26:08 for 13th place, while Samantha DePlanche (Dover, N.H.) rounded out the Mariners’ finishes in the top 20. She logged a 26:34 for 17th place.

Kara Wood (Otisfield) finished 25th in 32:57. Ashley Burnnett (Danville, N.H.) and Erica Taylor (Mesquite, Texas) took 27th and 28th places. They posted respective marks of 37:12 and 41:21.

The Mariners return to action Saturday at the Bowdoin College Invitational.
