Emerson boys, EEMS girls claim 1st at Parker Pruett Middle School Invitational



SULLIVAN — Youth cross-country runners from across Hancock County traveled to Sumner Memorial High School on Monday for the 20th running of the Parker Pruett Middle School Invitational.

In the boys’ team competition, Conners Emerson School of Bar Harbor claimed first place with 62 points to edge second-place Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School and third-place Mount Desert Elementary School. Ellsworth won the girls’ team competition with 39 points, and Emerson and Mount Desert tied for second with 67.

Individually, Blue Hill’s Jack Brooks won the boys’ race with a time of 12 minutes, 28 seconds. Callan Eason of Mount Desert claimed first place over Ellsworth’s Casey Carter in the girls’ race with a time of 13:28.

The meet is held annually in honor of Parker Pruett, a former cross-country runner at Sumner. Pruett came to Maine from his home in San Francisco to attend the event and present the championship trophy.
