ELLSWORTH — Eagle athletes certainly flew high and fast at their home nest on Saturday, April 30, as they not only hosted a handful of teams, including Deer Isle-Stonington and Sumner, but grabbed team, individual and relay firsts.
The girls’ team scores were: Ellsworth 164, Central 100, Narraguagus 44, Deer Isle-Stonington 15 and Sumner 12.
The boys’ team scores were: Ellsworth 225, Sumner 87, Central 32, Narraguagus 30 and Deer Isle-Stonington 1.
Bucksport and George Stevens Academy track-and-field student-athletes also were back in action in a meet at Hampden Academy on Saturday. The Golden Bucks and Eagles realized a boatload of top performances, including a bundle of first places.
The girls’ team scores were: Bucksport 218, Hampden Academy 158, George Stevens Academy 104, Caribou 55 and Hermon 12.
The boys’ team scores were: Hampden Academy 151, Bucksport 126, Caribou 118, George Stevens Academy 86, Hermon 74 and Searsport 16.
At Ellsworth, Addison Laslie took first in the 100 meters (13.30) and 200 meters (27.92) for the home team. She was also a member of two winning relay teams. She, Julie Mattson, Addison Atherton and Paige Sawyer won the 4×100-meter relay (53.50). Laslie, Mattson, Miah Coffin and Caroline Mazjai took first in the 4×400-meter relay (4:36.98).
Deer Isle-Stonington’s Luna Perry St. Peter took first in the javelin (93-4).
For the boys at the Ellsworth meet, the Eagles swept to first-place wins in the 4×100-meter, 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relays.
Aaron Lynch of EHS placed first in the 100 meters (12.16) and 200 meters (24.75). Sumner’s Ren Salisbury placed first in the 800 meters and 3,200 meters.
At Hampden on Saturday, the Bucksport and GSA teams took home several firsts
On the girls’ side, Rebekah Ireland scored wins for the Bucks in the 800 meters (2:46.46) and 1,600 meters (6:09.02). She was also a member of the winning 4×400-meter relay team with Ashley Cyr, Abigail Hunt and Alyx Frazell. Teammate Natasha Monreal won the long and triple jumps and was on the first-place 4×100-meter relay team with Angelina Cotoni, Frazell and Johanna Stiles. Cotoni also took firsts in the 100 meters (14.00), 100-meter hurdles (18.14) and pole vault (7-0).
GSA’s Maranda Pert took first in shot put and discus.
For the boys, Bucksport’s Colin Simpson secured first in the long jump (20-8.5) and triple jump (40-8.75). Nathan Paulauskas topped the high jump (6-2). For GSA, Arden Weaver, Clark Morrison and Andrew Hipsky took firsts in the 400 meters (Weaver, 56.23), 1,600 meters (Morrison, 4:49.90) and the 110-meter hurdles (Hipsky, 18.58).
