ELLSWORTH HIGH SCHOOL PHOTO Ellsworth 2nd, Sumner 3rd at state cheer championships February 10, 2018 on Cheering, Sports ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth and Sumner competition cheer teams finished second and third, respectively, at the Class B and C state championships Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center. Ellsworth earned 77.5 points in Class B to finish as runner-up to Hermon, who claimed back-to-back titles as well as its sixth in seven years. Mount Desert Island finished 11th in Class B. Sumner’s third-place finish in the Class C competition placed it behind Central and Lisbon. The Tigers have been a force in Class C in recent years after claiming a state championship in 2010. In Class D, Deer Isle-Stonington earned a sixth-place finish behind Central Aroostook, Penobscot Valley, Machias, Woodland and Bangor Christian. Central Aroostook’s championship was its fifth in a row and 10th in the past 11 seasons.
