Elementary and junior high cheer teams win big at state competition



The Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School varsity cheerleaders became the last team ever to compete at the Bangor Auditorium on Saturday and they made the most of it. The Falcons won the Division I championship and took first place overall.

BANGOR — Four Hancock County schools brought home trophies from the Maine State Cheering Championship for Elementary and Junior High last Saturday at Bangor Auditorium.

At the annual competition, involving young cheerleaders from pee wees to junior high schoolers, Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School’s Falcons Varsity Team won first and landed the top score (126.5 points) out of 44 competing schools. The Ellsworth Littles also took first in the Mini division. Hancock Grammar School’s Hornets captured first in Division II (six-eighth grade) while Peninsula School’s Bulldogs also placed first in Mixed Division II (third-eighth grade). The Lamoine Peewee cheerleaders won first place in their division for the 13th consecutive year.
