ELLSWORTH — It’s been a big couple of weeks for the third-, fourth- and fifth-graders who make up the Ellsworth Pee Wee Cheering team.
The girls were the only Maine team to participate in a national cheering competition held in Boston Feb. 25 and ended up placing third in their division and taking third place overall.
Last weekend in Bangor, in state championship competition for girls in grades 3-8, the Ellsworth Pee Wees took top honors in their division for the second consecutive year.
Better still, they outpointed every other team in the competition, regardless of age level, to win top overall honors as well.
The Pee Wees are coached by Kelli Mitchell and Jane Stackpole with Morgan Barkhouse as assistant coach.
Two other Ellsworth teams also fared well in the state competition.
The Ellsworth Falcons Believe team, also coached by Mitchell, Stackpole and Barkhouse, placed first in its division, and the Ellsworth Falcons Glam team took second in its division.
