Cheering Camp Planned for Youngsters in July

ELLSWORTH — Veteran cheering coach Cori-Lynn Noddin will join forces with the James Russell Wiggins Down East Family YMCA to offer a peewee cheering camp in July.

The camp, open to boys and girls from kindergarten through second grade, will be held July 5-8 at the Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School with daily sessions from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

“We will focus on providing a positive learning experience, promoting self-esteem and having fun,” said Noddin.

Instruction will be provided in the basic cheering fundamentals: cheers, tumbling, chants, dance, jumps, stunts, intense stretching and conditioning.

Noddin, who will be assisted by a staff of high school and collegiate athletes, has 13 years of coaching, teaching and officiating experience at all levels.

Her teams at the Lamoine Consolidated School won nine consecutive state championships.

Space is limited. To register, call the YMCA at 667-3086.

The camp fee of $125 includes a camp shirt and cheer bows.

There will be performance for family and friends on Friday, July 8, with the doors opening at 11 a.m.

Transportation to and from the YMCA day camp at Webb Pond and the cheering camp will be available for youngsters involved in both activities.

A supervised early drop-off location for working families also will be available for cheering camp participants.
