ELLSWORTH — An upset win over the previously unbeaten Orono Red Riots this week has placed the George Stevens Academy Eagle girls solidly among the Eastern Maine Class C teams bidding for post-season play.
The Eagles join the Mount Desert Island Trojans and the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners as Hancock County teams ranked in the top half of the various EM classes.
The 9-1 Trojans are holding down second place in the Class B standings, trailing only the still-unbeaten Presque Isle Wildcats.
GSA, with a record of 6-5, has climbed to seventh place in Class C.
The Mariners, now 7-2 after wins this week over Sumner, Machias and Calvary Chapel, are ranked seventh in Class D.
Out of the post-season picture at this point are the 1-11 Bucksport Golden Bucks, the 1-9 Ellsworth Eagles, the 0-9 Sumner Tigers and the 0-9 Acadia Christian Seahawks.
