BAR HARBOR — In an upset win, the Pemetic girls’ A basketball team won the Coastal Athletic League championships on Thursday at the Mount Desert Island High School. The Indians defeated the previously undefeated Emerson Tigers 40-30.

“We went in with a good game plan against Bar Harbor. Hannah Shaw is a phenomenal player but she is not the only one,” said Pemetic coach Steve Snurkowski. “They had had walked it onto us a couple of times but we had gone pretty vanilla against them too. We hadn’t run any set plays or anything like that so I was pretty confident going in that if we performed decently we would have a chance in that game.”

Leading the Tigers, Hannah Shaw scored 17 points. Kelsey Shaw scored six, O’Neil put up four and both Savannah Graves and Hannah McGarr contributed two points.

“Everything that we did in that championship game we have been working on since November, said Coach Snurkowski.

The lessons that Coach Snurkowski has imparted to these athletes he hopes will carry them through not just their high school career, but life.

“Heart and hustle is what it amounts to most of the time,” said Coach Snurkowski. “If you have the bigger heart and you are willing to hustle to get on the floor for loose balls you will win a lot of games no matter what your talent level is.”
