MMA Beats UM-Augusta in Colby Invitational Consolation Game

WATERVILLE — Paul Campbell (Camden), who made the all-tournament team, had 21 points and seven assists as Maine Maritime Academy opened up a big early lead on the way to an 89-62 win over University of Maine at Augusta on Sunday in the consolation game of the Colby College Invitational.

Campbell shot 8-for-10 from the foul line and also had five rebounds. Tyler Pineo (Corinth) finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists for the Mariners. Shawn Dostie (Bowdoinham) had 13 points, Sam Bell (Calais) added 12 points and six rebounds, and Jarred Sternbergh (Jonesboro) had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ben Russell (Farmington) did not attempt a field goal, but was 8-for-8 from the foul line for MMA.

The Mariners (2-4) shot 26-for-30 from the free-throw line and 53 percent from the field at 28-for-53. MMA shot 69 percent in opening up a 55-28 halftime lead. The winners scored the first 18 points of the game in taking control for good.

Jawaan Stallings (Chicago, Ill.), who made the all-tournament team, had 23 points to lead all scorers for Maine-Augusta (6-4). Arron Cochran (San Antonio, Texas) had 11 points, while Lawrence Williams (Chicago, Ill.) had nine points and seven rebounds.
