Mariners hold off Golden Bucks

In Bucksport on Monday, the Golden Bucks and Mariners swapped baskets through nearly three periods of play.

But the Mariners closed out the third quarter with an eight-point run and held off the Golden Bucks the rest of the way for the 39-32 victory.

The Mariners took control when Allyson Eaton scored from inside the foul line, Chelsea Brown followed with consecutive steals that she converted to baskets and Morgan Shepard hit a short jumper for a 30-21 DI-Stonington lead.

Brown finished with 11 points and Eaton had nine to lead the Mariners.

Taylor Staples scored 11 points and Deb Wight had seven for Bucksport.
