JOHNSON, Vt. — Visiting Maine Maritime Academy received 51 points from seniors Sam Goda (Eliot) and Maggie Smith (Bath) to key a 71-54 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) women’s basketball victory over Johnson State on Friday night at Carter Gymnasium. JSC now stands at 3-10, 1-6 NAC while the Mariners even their record at 6-6, 3-3 NAC.
Johnson saw freshman guard Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) score a team-best 16 points while senior guard Andrea Deuell (Milton, Vt.) tallied 13 points. Freshman forwards Kirsten Rand (Colchester, Vt.) and Madeline Pritchard (North Clarendon, Vt.) each chipped in seven points.
Smith scored a game-high 29 points for the Mariners and drilled six 3-pointers while Goda added 16 rebounds to her 22 points. MMA canned 8-of-19 3-pointers on the night, held a 40-29 rebounding advantage, and ran out to a 41-17 halftime lead in the win.
Johnson State will host Husson University on Saturday at 4:00 pm in their next contest while the Mariners head to Lyndon State for a 1:00 pm tip on Saturday
