Lady Mariners Use Balanced Attack to Defeat UMPI

CASTINE — The Maine Maritime women’s basketball team used tremendous defensive effort and balanced scoring to cruise past the Owls from UMaine Presque Isle in a non-conference game Friday night.

The Lady Mariners enjoyed at 21 point lead at the half and forced 39 UMPI turnovers en route to the 31 point victory.

MMA is 5-5 overall heading into conference play while the Owls slip to 0-9 on the season.

Sam Goda (Eliot) and Amethyst Cousins (Bass Harbor) each scored 12 points in limited action while Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) and Maggie Smith (Bath) each chipped in with 9 points apiece. Goda recorded her 5th double double of the year grabbing 10 rebounds. The Lady Mariners had four players with four assists in the game.

Logahn Walker (Strong) led the Owls with a game high 19 points while Emily Moore (Lisbon, ME) contributed 11 points and 6 assists in 37 minutes of action.

The Lady Mariners shot 51.9% from the floor and dished out 24 assists. MMA out rebounded the Owls 30 to 26 for the game.
