GSA’s Ensworth gets 1st win as varsity girls’ basketball coach



BLUE HILL — The George Stevens Academy girls’ basketball team defeated Bucksport 55-45 on Monday to give Brandi Ensworth her first win as head coach.

Mazie Smallidge provided 22 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles (1-4) in the win. Cassie Coombs was the top scorer for Bucksport (1-3) with 24.

Ensworth took over following the departure of Bill Case, who retired in the offseason. Her husband, Mark, coaches GSA’s boys’ soccer team.

The following evening, the GSA boys improved to 3-1 by topping Bucksport (3-1) 69-66 in overtime. Taylor Schildroth scored 38 for the Eagles, who gave the Golden Bucks their first loss of the season despite missing forward Max Mattson, who was out with a back injury,
