Girls’ basketball: Ellsworth remains undefeated



ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team won at Old Town 42-34 on Tuesday night.

Maddie Card connected for a game-high 18 points to propel the Eagles (3-0) to their third straight win to start the season. Old Town dropped to 0-4.

Kate Whitney contributed nine points for Ellsworth.

GSA 50, Bucksport 47

Morgan Dauk poured in 24 points to help George Stevens Academy (2-2) edge Bucksport (0-4) on Monday.

Mazie Smallidge chipped in with 12 points for GSA.

Cassie Coombs paced Bucksport with 19 points, and Breanna Coombs chipped in 13.

Searsport 34, Sumner 26

Searsport (3-2) erased a five-point halftime deficit to pull out the victory over Sumner (3-2) on Monday.

Kala Young led Sumner with 13 points.

Sumner 55, Jonesport-Beals 14

Taya Moore led Sumner with 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals en route to victory over Jonesport-Beals (0-3) on Saturday.

Casco Haley chipped in with nine points for Sumner, and Taylor Merchant had eight.

MDI 41, Hermon 38

Mount Desert Island (3-0) beat Hermon (1-3) on Friday.

Sumner 49, DI-S 36

Sumner beat Deer Isle-Stonington (0-3) on Thursday.

Calais 53, GSA 49

Calais (2-1) jumped out to a 17-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and then held off GSA for the victory Thursday.

GSA cut the lead to two at the end of the third quarter.

Morgan Dauk led GSA with 24 points, and Mazie Smallidge contributed 10.

MDI 72, WA 47

Kelsey Shaw scored a game-high 19 points as MDI took a 20-5 first quarter lead over Washington Academy (2-2) and never looked back Wednesday.

Sierra Tapley and Keely McComony each contributed 16 points for MDI.
