BLUE HILL — Ellsworth saw the stubborn GSA Eagles cut an 18-point lead to six in the third period of Thursday night’s game.

Fortunately, from Ellsworth’s point of view, the momentum shifted with the start of the final quarter and the visiting Eagles outscored their hosts 16-5 in the quarter to claim the win.

The game got off to a slow start, especially for GSA, which managed just nine points in the first period

By halftime, Ellsworth had stretched the margin a little bit, leaving the court with a 29-20 lead.

The visiting Eagles opened the third quarter with a 12-3 run that pushed the lead to 41-23 before the GSA offense finally came alive.

Over the next five minutes, Nick Kane connected on a pair of three-pointers and Elias Springer, Nick Doolittle and Cameron Lawson each scored a pair of baskets for GSA on an 18-6 run that cut Ellsworth’s lead to 47-41 by period’s end.

But just as quickly, the momentum shifted again.

The host Eagles found themselves unable to take care of the ball, and the frequent turnovers were more often than not converted to points by Ellsworth.

Petros and Austin each contributed a pair of baskets as Ellsworth reeled off 14 unanswered points, stretching the lead to 61-41.

GSA finally got its first of just two baskets for the period at the 2:11 mark on a turnaround lay-in by Tom Crowe, and Nick Dillon hit a three-pointer in the waning seconds.

For Ellsworth, Austin finished with a game-high 15 points, Petros had 10, Cote Card scored eight and Jordan Carter chipped in with seven.

Kane led GSA with 11 points, Lawson finished with nine and Crowe had seven.
