In Ellsworth Tuesday, the Hermon Hawks jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first period and made it stand up the rest of the way in handing the Ellsworth Eagles a 60-53 loss.
The Hawks led 25-16 at halftime and 42-30 after three periods.
The Eagles saved the best for last, outscoring the Hawks 23-18 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.
Griffin Nightingale had another strong game for 2-2 Ellsworth with 25 points, hitting seven of 14 attempts from the floor and 10 of 13 foul shots.
Steven Mahon chipped in with nine points, Brandon Braley had eight and Josh Bean had seven points and seven assists.
Tyler Thayer scored 17 points and Jacob Rioux had 13 for the Hawks.
