Ellsworth boys, girls sweep Scott C. Jellison Memorial Tournament

SULLIVAN — The Ellsworth boys’ and girls’ junior varsity basketball teams claimed championship wins Saturday in the fifth annual Scott Jellison C. Memorial Tournament.

Ellsworth claimed both championship game victories over Mount Desert Island to cap off the full day of action at Sumner Memorial High School. The tournament also featured Sumner, Narraguagus, Orono and Washington Academy on the boys’ side and George Stevens Academy, Machias, Narraguagus, Orono and Washington Academy on the girls’ side.

The Ellsworth JV boys’ team, which beat MDI again Tuesday in a 61-56 overtime contest in Bar Harbor, was coached by Corey Bagley and Dylan Kelley. Shane Lowell coached the Ellsworth JV girls’ team.

The annual tournament honors Scott C. Jellison, who played for the Sumner boys’ team in the 1980s and was one of the Tigers’ most avid fans prior to his death in 2015. This year, the tournament raised more than $9,000 for the Sumner Memorial High School Athletics Booster Club.
