Boys’ basketball: Four Hancock County teams notch season-opening wins

ELLSWORTH — Four Hancock County high school boys’ basketball teams kicked off their seasons with strong performances. Ellsworth, Bucksport, George Stevens Academy and Mount Desert Island all won their season-openers.

GSA 69, Piscataquis 43

GSA used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Piscataquis and gain its second victory of the season on Tuesday.

GSA’s Taylor Schildroth led all scorers with 14 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Other GSA scorers included Will Entwistle (12 points) and Beckett Slayton (10 points). Nick Szwez, Max Mattson and Khemani Peasley each contributed eight points.

Bucksport 60, Sumner 49

Riley MacLeod tallied 18 points and Tyler Pye added 16 to lead Bucksport past Sumner on Tuesday.

Chase Carmichael and Tanner Stegner each chipped in 10 points for Bucksport.

Issiac Christiansen led Sumner with 18 points.

Searsport 44, DI-S 43 (OT)

Barrent Grant scored 15 points to help Searsport nip Deer Isle-Stonington in overtime on Tuesday.

Paul Zoephel and Mason Oliver each scored 10 points for DI-S.

GSA 82, DI-S 49

Taylor Schildroth hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to propel GSA by DI-S on Saturday.

Khalede Clark chipped in with 13 points for GSA.

Elliott Nevells led DI-S with nine points.

Ellsworth 63, Foxcroft 57

Bruce St. Peter tallied 13 points to lead Ellsworth past Foxcroft on Saturday.

Zach Harris and Nick Bagley each contributed 12 points.

WA 64, Sumner 50

Washington Academy used a 25-6 third quarter to erase a six-point halftime deficit en route to the win over Sumner on Saturday.

Alex O’Hara led Sumner with 16 points, and Jordan Bernier chipped in 11.

MDI 72, Old Town 58

Russell Kropff’s game-high 23 points led MDI past Old Town on Saturday.

Bucksport 35, Searsport 24

Tyler Pye recorded 11 points Riley McLeod grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Bucksport to victory on Friday.
