BBN 5th-grade girls’ team wins Zero Gravity state title



ELLSWORTH — The Black Bear North fifth-grade girls’ basketball team won the state’s Zero Gravity AAU title Sunday afternoon in Lewiston.

BBN Black started the tournament Saturday with a 20-0 win over Team Blue Wave of Portland. Later in the day, the team posted a 32-15 victory over another Portland-based club, Maine Firecrackers.

On Sunday morning, BBN Black defeated Team Blue Wave 20-0 a second time to advance to the title game. Playing for the tournament championship, the team beat Maine Firecrackers 28-21.

Kaylee Bagley of Hancock, Elizabeth Boles of Ellsworth and Sydney Mason of Lamoine made up the local contingent on BBN Black, which also drew players from Appleton, Bangor, Brewer, Hope, Rockport, Searsport and Swanville. The team was coached by Jennifer and Howard Fogg of Knox.

The Zero Gravity title was the second in back-to-back years for Bagley, Boles and Mason, who won it as fourth-graders last year. They will head to play in the national finals June 1-2 in Stoughton, Mass.
