BLUE HILL — Coastal of the Deer Isle / Blue Hill area came up with three runs in the top of the eighth inning to edge Acadian of Mount Desert Island 8-7 for the District 1 Senior League championship on Wednesday.
Sam Grindle had a two-run double and Connor Morey an RBI single to provide the decisive runs as Coastal advanced to the state Senior League tournament that begins Thursday, July 28th, at Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium.
Colin Mooers slammed a two-run triple for Acadian in the bottom of the eighth inning but the rally fell short.
“Nobody likes to lose, that’s for sure,” said Acadian coach Tony McKim. “But we didn’t commit as many errors against Coastal as the first time we played. Still, there were times we had the game won and let it slip away. It doesn’t feel great. But Coastal did a good job.”
For Coastal, Grindle finished with a double and two singles, while Mariner Cheney doubled and singled and Hayden Ciomei singled twice.
Keegan McKim had four singles, Robbie Logue doubled and singled and Ben Walls and Steven Hanscom each singled twice for Acadian.
