Mariners Win 1 Lose 1

The Mariners knocked the Katahdin Cougars from the ranks of the undefeated on Saturday, winning the first game of a doubleheader at Brewer 5-4.

And they did so in dramatic fashion.

The Mariners came from behind, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning, then held on as relief pitcher Eben Powers struck out the final batter of the game while Katahdin’s Andy Kay was attempting to steal home.

The Mariners had just four hits in the game but one was a three-run double by Powers in the fourth inning.

In the second game, Katahdin righthander Josh Guiggey pitched a five-inning three-hitter as the Cougars rolled to a 13-0 win.

Joe Carter tripled, Powers doubled and Joe Condon singled for the Mariners.
