Mariners Sweep Wolverines

DEER ISLE — The Mariners swept a doubleheader from the Schenck Wolverines on Saturday, winning the first game 6-0 and the second 16-4.

Righthander Evan Rollins pitched a two-hitter in the first game as the Mariners made the most of their five hits.

Rollins singled in the first inning, stole second and scored on a single by Eben Powers in the first inning.

But Schenck’s Ryan Thompson then pitched shutout baseball for four innings before DI-Stonington struck for five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Joe Carter and Nick Trundy both reach base on errors. Carter then scored on a groundout by Jake Starkey and Trundy scored on a bunt single by Oliver Lawson.

Jay Boyce then singled and scored behind Lawson on a double by Rollins, and Jon Lymburner doubled to drive in Rollins.

In the second game, the Mariners jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to Joe Condon’s three-run homer and RBI singles by Carter and Rollins.

Condon singled in another run in a three-run fourth inning and doubled in the sixth as the Mariners piled on six more runs with RBI singles by Rollins and Lymburner and a three-run homer by Carter.

Alec Peasley went the distance on the mound for the Mariners, scattering eight hits.
