Mariners Roll Over Hornets

DEER ISLE — Joe Condon got the job done on the mound and at the plate as the Mariners rolled to a 12-2 Class D quarterfinal win over Ashland on Thursday.

Condon pitched a complete game two-hitter for the fourth-ranked Mariners and blasted a three-run homer in the 11-hit attack.

The Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on consecutive singles by Jon Lymburner, Eben Powers and Joe Carter and a sacrifice fly by Condon.

In the second inning, the Mariners erupted for seven more runs, putting the game well out of reach of the Hornets.

The Mariners added one more run in the third, one in the fourth and another in the fifth, when the game was ended by the 10-run mercy rule.

Lymburner slammed a two-run homer, Powers had his three-run round-tripper and Alec Peasley, Deven Haskell and Jay Boyce had singles in the inning.

Ashland scored both runs in the fourth inning on a double by Carl Nemer, an RBI single by Jeremy Tarr and a fielder’s choice.
