Gardiner Blanks Bucksport 7-0

BUCKSPORT — Bucksport had runners on base in every inning but not one of them crossed the plate as the Gardiner Tigers blanked the Golden Bucks 7-0 in a Class B baseball semifinal on Saturday.

Righthander Donnie Cray struggled with his control, walking five batters and hitting two more, but gave up just three hits in his complete game effort for the top-ranked Tigers.

Gardiner’s Michael Phelps drove in three runs in the first four innings against Bucksport righthander Tim Nason, who also went the distance on the mound.

Bucksport’s biggest threats came in the fifth and seventh innings when the Golden Bucks loaded the bases.

But each time, Cray pitched his way out of the jam, with a strikeout in the fifth and a foul pop-up in the seventh to end the game.

The fourth-ranked Golden Bucks closed out their season with a 13-6 record.
