Ellsworth Little League Junior League team wins District 1 tourney



ELLSWORTH — The Ellsworth Little League Junior League baseball team won the District 1 title last Wednesday with a 11-9 win over Machias Little League in the title game at Ellsworth’s Demeyer Field.

The win gave Ellsworth five victories in a row after opening the tournament with a 4-1 lost to Coastal Little League of Blue Hill on July 15. Ellsworth responded that loss with an 8-7 win over Calais Little League on July 17 and an 8-0 win against Coastal in a rematch July 19 before beating Acadian Little League the following day and sweeping Machias to take the title.

Team members were Jacob Bagley, Hunter Boles, Wyatt Bragdon, Drew Cote, Lucas Gagnon, Billy Garland, Aiden Gibbons, Peter Keblinsky, Brady Kenny, Miles Palmer and Sam Wagenknecht. The team was coached by Michael Boles and Joe Gibbons.

Last week also marked the conclusion of the Ellsworth Little League season as the Junior League team fell to Bangor West and Standish Little Leagues at the state tournament. The 9-10 softball team concluded its season Tuesday with a 15-4 loss to Biddeford Little League following the resumption of a suspended game.
