EHS alums propel Husson baseball team to 5 straight wins

BANGOR — A pair of Ellsworth High School alums have the Husson baseball team back on the right track.

Jackson Curtis and Austin Baron propelled Husson to five consecutive wins last week against the University of Maine at Farmington. Both former Ellsworth players notched hits and scored runs in multiple games as the Eagles rebounded from four straight losses to the University of Southern Maine to begin the season.

Curtis, a freshman, made his college debut in Husson’s road contest against UMaine-Farmington on Thursday after missing the Eagles’ opening series. Playing as the designated hitter, the freshman impressed as he smacked three base hits and tallied three RBIs to lead Husson to its first victory of the season.

Returning to action for an afternoon doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington on Saturday, Curtis opened the day with an RBI single as Husson claimed a 6-0 victory over the visiting Beavers. He then added two hits and one RBI in the second game of the doubleheader as the Eagles prevailed 4-0 to notch their third consecutive victory.

Husson then hit the road Sunday for another doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington. Curtis, who is now batting a team-best .421 this season, smacked a double and scored an early go-ahead run in the Eagles’ 6-5 win to open the day before crushing a two-run homer to round out a 6-1 victory in the series finale.

Baron, a 2018 Ellsworth graduate and Husson’s starting catcher, hit a triple and scored a run Saturday in the Eagles’ 4-0 victory against UMaine-Farmington. The junior contributed once again Sunday as he stole two bases and scored a run in the opening game of the doubleheader and added another hit and stolen base to close out the series.
