Eagles Out Duel Mariners

BLUE HILL — A single by Jesse Dow, a sacrifice bunt by Cameron Lawson and a run-scoring double by Josh Gale in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the GSA Eagles to a 7-6 win over the Mariners on Monday.

GSA jumped on Mariner righthander Evan Rollins for three runs in the first inning on walks to Sam Eley and Dow, a sacrifice by Lawson, an RBI single by Gale, a run-scoring double by Nick Kane and an RBI single by Josh Jones.

The Eagles added a run in the second when Eley walked and scored on a single by Dow.

But the Mariners got to Dow, who pitched for GSA, in the third inning, knotting the score with four runs.

Jake Starkey reached base on a GSA throwing error, Sam Grindle singled and another GSA error, on a bunt by Jay Boyce, loaded the bases.

Starkey was forced at home on a bouncer back to the pitcher by Rollins, but Oliver Lawson followed with a two-run single and then scored on a single by Joe Carter.

The Mariners took the lead with a run in the fourth inning but GSA went back in front 6-5 in the sixth as Tom Crowe scored on a single by Jared Reed and Eley singled to drive in Jones with the go-ahead run.

Again the Mariners rallied, tying the score in the top of the seventh on a double by Carter and a run-scoring single by Joe Condon.

Both pitchers went the distance with Rollins allowing 10 hits and Dow nine.
