Coastal Eliminated In 11-12 Tourney

BAR HARBOR — After a heartbreaking 4-3 extra-inning loss in their opening game, the Coastal All-stars of the Blue Hill-Deer Isle area squeaked out a 3-2 win over East Biddeford on Sunday in their second outing in the State Little League Tournament for ages 11-12.

But on Monday, District 2 champion Waldo got a superb three-hit pitching performance from Joey Danna and Connor Kneeland to eliminate the Distrrict 1 champions 4-0, ending Coastal’s bid for a state title.

Singles by Taylor Schildroth, Jacob Keenan and Bryce Harmon were the only hits for Coastal.

Waldo came up with four fourth-inning runs, only one of them earned, against Schildroth, who went the distance on the mound for Coastal.

Dirigo 4, Coastal 3

On Saturday, Coastal jumped in front of District 5 champion Dirigo 2-0 in the second inning when Stefan Simmons singled and Trent Williamson slammed the first of his two home runs.

Dirigo finally got to Coastal pitcher Jake Keenan for two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

Nate Howard doubled and scored when the ball was overthrown at first on John Henry’s bunt. Noah Bonsant then singled to drive in Howard and knot the score.

One inning later, Dirigo took a 3-2 lead when Tyler Dostie singled, advanced on a single by Dakota Stoops and scored on a single by Henry in a close play at the plate.

Williamson sent the game into extra innings when he delivered his second home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Dirigo scored what proved to be the game-winner in the top of the seventh when Jake Hendsbee tripled and scored on an overthrow at third base.

Bryce Harmon came on in relief and struck out the next three batters, but the damage was done.

Coastal had a chance to re-tie the score in the bottom of the inning when Taylor Schildroth doubled and Keenan singled, but Schildroth was thrown out at the plate.

Keenan went five innings on the mound for Coastal, allowing just three hits and striking out three batters, and Simmons pitched the sixth before making way for Harmon in the seventh.

Coastal 3, East Biddeford 2

On Sunday against District 4 champion East Biddeford, Coastal again struck first.

Schildroth opened the game with a single, advanced on a groundout by Keenan and scored on a single by Simmons.

Coastal boosted its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning as Williamson walked and scored on a home run by Tyler Snow.

East Biddeford managed a single run in the fourth on a walk and a single, and another in the sixth on two walks and a Coastal error.

Harmon went five and one-third innings on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out 10 batters, and Schildroth came on to get the final two outs in the sixth.
