BUCKSPORT — The Bucksport baseball team followed a season-opening loss to Orono last Wednesday with shutout victories over two Hancock County foes.

After its 3-0 loss to reigning Class C North champion Orono, Bucksport rebounded Friday with a big win over visiting Sumner. Owen Gaudreau pitched four scoreless innings before Gavin Holyoke entered in the fifth to close out the game for the Golden Bucks, who prevailed 10-0 via the mercy rule to claim their first win of the season.

Returning to action Tuesday, Bucksport claimed a 2-0 victory over Mount Desert Island (2-1) in Bar Harbor. The two teams were scoreless through six innings before the Golden Bucks plated a pair of runs in the seventh to break the deadlock.

Jake Guty pitched a complete game for Bucksport (2-1) as he struck out 13 MDI batters and allowed only one walk and two hits. Guty also smacked a double for Bucksport, which got singles from Jordan Malenfant and Logan Stanley.

Bucksport will play on the road against Belfast at 4 p.m. Friday, April 30. The Golden Bucks will then play home games against Central at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1, and Ellsworth at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 4.
