SEARSPORT — A two-run double by Steve Zirnkilton in the sixth inning lifted the Trenton Acadians to a 9-8 win over Steamboat Petroleum of Waldo County on Thursday in American Legion Zone 1 baseball action.
Steamboat twice came back to tie the game after Trenton had taken the lead.
After the Acadians grabbed a run in the first inning on a hit batter and three consecutive walks, Steamboat knotted the score when Jack Davis walked, stole second and third and scored on a single by Josiah Brazier.
The Acadians went back in front 6-1 in the second on two walks, a Steamboat error, a fielder’s choice RBI by Garrett Kaspala, a two-run double by Collin Ciomei and a two-run homer by Mickey Manning.
Trenton added another run in the third when Andy Hodge singled, went to second on an Ebb Walton single, took third on a balk and scored on a sacrifice fly by Garrett Kaspala.
But Steamboat rallied for six runs in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 7-7.
Nate Adams singled and scored on a double by Ethan McHattan, Josiah Brazier followed with an RBI single.
Trenton righthander Peter Dickinson then issued three walks, one of them forcing in a run, and Davis followed with a two-run single and Adams with an RBI single.
Righthander John Carlin came on in relief in the fourth and pitched scoreless fourth amd fifth innings.
Trenton came up with the winning runs in the sixth when Nick Saunders walked, Ciomei reached on error, Manning walked and Steve Zirnkilton slammed a two-run double.
Steamboat scored one unearned run in the bottom of the inning on a walk, a stolen base and a Trenton error.
But neither team scored in the seventh as Carlin and the Acadians held on for the win.
