  • Cultrera Runs in New England Meet

    Anthony Cultrera of the Sumner Tigers was among the Maine competitors at the recent New England Indoor Track Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. He ran in the 55-meter dash, finishing 19th and besting such Maine standouts as Brewer’s Ben Sinclair and Hermon’s Justin Cullens.

    A foul shooting contest will be held Saturday, April 4, at Narraguagus High School in Harrington. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the competition will get under way at 11 a.m. with divisions for both boys and girls in grades K-12 as well as for adults.     SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The weather might be stuck between winter and spring but the basketball action heats up on Mount Desert Island this weekend with the 16th Annual Great Harbor Shootout (GHSO).

    BAR HARBOR — Baseball and softball sign-ups are planned for kids ages 9 to 12 from Mount Desert Island and Trenton. Deadline for player sign-up is Friday, April 3. Player registration forms can be picked up at the MDI YMCA, Harbor House and Neighborhood House, and will be distributed by all local schools’ athletic directors.

    NEWPORT — At the Snow Ball basketball tournament in Newport, Maine over the weekend of March 13, the MDI girls were among five teams to compete. Sierra DaGraca was the second-place winner of the three-point contest at the Snow Ball Tournament for the third and forth-grade girls.
