MMA Beats Fisher

CASTINE — The Maine Maritime Academy Men’s Soccer team improved to 5-2-1 after collecting an impressive 8-0 victory over the visiting Falcons from Fisher College on Sunday. Sophomore Nate Tipton (West Chester, PA) and freshman Richie Munster (Greenville) each scored two goals in the match leading the Mariners to victory.

The Mariners started the scoring 39 seconds into the match when Tipton gathered a pass from Ben Russell (Farmington) and tucked the ball into the right corner of the net. Abdullah Alhkayyat (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) put MMA up 2-0 on an unassisted goal and Tipton ended the first half with his second goal of the day on a beautiful pass from Alhkayyat.

Just minutes into the second half, MMA striker Omar Chaar (Stockton Springs) and midfielder Jakub Racinski scored back to back to give MMA the 5-0 lead. Munster scored the next two goals, and then freshman Nathon Best (Columbia Falls) finished the scoring with his first collegiate goal.

MMA keeper Jeff Butland got the win for MMA making 0 saves on 3 shots. Jose Villagren (Somerville, MA) took the loss for the Falcons making 8 saves on 32 MMA shots. MMA improves to 5-2-1 overall and remain 1-0 in the NAC.
