MDI Fields Get Facelift

BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island High School baseball and softball fields are undergoing a much-needed facelift. The Mount Desert Island All-Sports Boosters will build new dugouts, install a new softball scoreboard, raise up the old baseball scoreboard, build a storage facility for softball, and install new flagpoles at both fields.

“It’s 30-plus years old and is starting to look a little ragtag,” said Alfred “Bunky” Dow, MDIHS athletic director. “We’re also going to address some safety issues with the dugouts and will screen-in both dugouts to prevent people from being hit by foul balls. The project itself is about both safety and cosmetic improvements.”

The entire project is being funded from cash or in-kind donations. Individuals or businesses that make donations will be recognized with a plaque on both fields to thank them. The project will need nearly $20,000 for completion.
