Maine Maritime Shuts Out Unity

CASTINE — Freshman striker, Callie Thompson (Windsor) scored four goals as the Maine Maritime Academy Lady Mariners rolled over Unity College in a non-conference women’s soccer game Wednesday evening.

Maine Maritime got on the board first when freshman Callie Thompson scored her first of four goals on the night in the 24th minute from Katie Hutchinson (Dixfield). Thompson struck again just 24 seconds later when she received a cross from Emily Brogden (Union, ME) and slid it by the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

The Lady Mariners scored again in the 41st minute when senior Diana Manatt-Rogers (Conway, MA) scored her second goal of the season on a feed from defender Kari Jones (Nobleboro) and increased the lead to 3-0 at the half.

The Lady Mariners put the game away in the 2nd half scoring two more unassisted goals from Callie Thompson to give them the 5-0 victory. With the four goals on the night, Thompson tied a school record for goals in a game.

Lacey Jackson (York, PA) got the shutout and the win for MMA improving to 4-3 on the year. Deidra Ousterhout (Silverton, OR) took the loss for the Rams making 9 saves on 27 shots.

Next up for the Lady Mariners (4-3-0) is a home match against Fisher College on Sunday morning at 11am.
