Lady Mariners Travel to Tufts for NCAA New England Regional

CASTINE — The Lady Mariners, winners of the North Atlantic Conference tournament, will be the eighth seed in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Regional Championships. The regional tournament will be hosted by Tufts University, located in Medford, Massachusetts. The regionals will begin on Thursday the 12th of November, with eight teams playing, and will conclude on Saturday the 15th, after the regional championship game.

The Lady Mariners (22-5) come in as the #8 seed and will take on the #1 seeded Tufts University Jumbos (28-4) on Thursday evening at 8:00pm. This will be the third straight appearance for Maine Maritime in the NCAA Tournament, while the Jumbo’s make their fourth appearance.

The first-round matches for the Tufts site on Thursday will be Williams (21-8) vs. Emerson (30-6) at 12:30 pm, UMass Boston (29-4) vs. Westfield State (19-15) at 3 pm, Clarkson (28-6) vs. Wellesley (23-9) at 5:30 pm, and MMA (22-5) vs. Tufts (28-4) at 8 pm.

Tickets will be available at the door. Adults $5, Students $4, and children (under 12)/senior citizens $3.

The Tufts Regional champion will play at the NCAA championship finals to be held November 19-21 at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights, Ohio and will be hosted by John Carroll University and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission.
